Saturday morning's small pony riders provided entertainment worthy of a better slot
in the programme. Penultimate-drawn Rosie Gunn and Get Ready Freddie produced the round
of the day to take the 128cm title by almost 6 seconds from Robbie Jenkins.
Rosie, 11, had the biggest and loudest support in the class. Her family runs a livery
yard and riding school in Nottinghamshire and 50 clients hired a bus to travel to the
show and watch Rosie and her elder sister Stephanie.
"Freddie's the best pony ever. I'll never ride another like him", said Rosie, who will soon
move into 138cm classes and had another reason to hope for success.
"This was for Ollie", she said, dedicating it to Freddie's former ride, Ollie Liley, who
lost his battle with serious illness earlier in the year.
Stephanie Gunn finished 9th place in the 138 Championship on 'Atlantic Swift' and also rode
'Colour Wonder' in the Junior Newcomers.
